Guest of Honor: Richard Launius

GnomeCon is proud to welcome award-winning game designer Richard Launius as a guest of honor. He will be available to sign autographs, demo games and maybe participate in a panel.

“I will also be glad to run some of my games for players that want to play with the designers,” said Launius. “I will be bringing all of the Arkham Horror (that is a pretty long game) Elder Sign, Defenders of the Realm and Dragon Rampage.”

Arkham Horror, created by Launius, won the Origins HG Wells Best Science Fiction Board Game Award in 1987. Redesigned by Launius and Kevin Wilson, it was re-released in 2005 by Fantasy Flight Games. The two would later collaborate on Elder Sign, also based on the stories of H.P. Lovecraft.

In addition, Launius created the fantasy game Defenders of the Realm, published by Eagle Games, and its expansion Dragons. He is currently working on a Defenders of the Realm card game. Other titles soon be released include Pirates vs. Dinosaurs and Run, Fight, or Die.

In an interview with meepletown.com, Launius said, “My personal philosophy on what makes a good game is very simple – it has to be fun to play. There are a lot of factors that go into a game design…but at the end of the day all games are evaluated on whether they are fun to play or not.”
